06/12/2001
Young technology companies were today urged to seize a
golden opportunity to boost their business potential by
Minister for Enterprise, Transport and Lifelong Learning, Wendy
Alexander.
Ms Alexander was speaking at the opening of the "Scottish
Tech Tour 2001" in Edinburgh. The event provides a forum for
Scotland's' most innovative and upcoming technology companies
to meet with representatives from leading blue-chip technology
corporations, venture capitalists, advisors, investment banks,
and corporate advisors.
Ms Alexander said:
"Tech Tour 2001 gives promising Scottish companies the
chance to access funding and opportunities to boost their
performance. Successful links benefit not only the
participating companies, but Scotland as a whole.
"The tour is clear evidence of Scotland's strength in
developing Scottish talent in creating leading technology and
our increasingly global aspirations for that technology.
"Scotland already enjoys an international reputation in
leading technology sectors. To build on a world-class research
base it is vital that new generations of entrepreneurs are
given the encouragement and backing to develop their ideas into
thriving businesses. Helping Scottish technology go global is
vital to our future. Young innovative businesses should rise to
the challenge and grasp this opportunity."
