A new Bill to enhance the provision of education for
children under school age, and which paves the way for the

primary school.
The second section contains amendments to the School
Boards (Scotland) Act 1988 to provide for the successful
and timely introduction of a new career structure for the
teaching profession, as outlined in the agreement "
A Teaching Profession for the 21
st Century".
BACKGROUND
The changes to the School Boards (Scotland) Act 1988
have been discussed and agreed with the Scottish School
Board Association. Both changes follow a consultation
exercise that began in July.
