St Mary's Episcopal Primary School to return to Stirling Council
28/08/2001
Minister for Education, Jack McConnell, has today signed an order which will return St Mary's Episcopal Primary School, Dunblane, to the management of Stirling Council,
Mr McConnell said:
"This order ends the uncertainty which has been hanging over St Mary's Episcopal Primary School since legislation was passed last year abolishing self-governing schools.
"It will mark the completion of the process started by Parliament through that Act, and will enable the school to move forward to a bright future under Stirling Council within the improvement framework for schools in Scotland.
"I am confident the school will continue to flourish under its new management and hope the Board of Management at the school will work positively with the Council to ensure a smooth handover, for the benefit of the children at the school."
BACKGROUND
St Mary's Episcopal Primary School in Dunblane is the only self-governing school in Scotland. The order is being made under section 17 of the Standards in Scotland's Schools etc Act 2000 and will see the school returning to the management of Stirling Council on January 7 2002.
