Lanarkshire boosted by record drugs funding

The fight against drugs in Lanarkshire has received a massive boost following an announcement this week by the Scottish Executive of extra funding.
A record £100 million package of measures was unveiled last September. This week Deputy Justice Minister Iain Gray outlined how Lanarkshire will benefit.
Mr Gray said:
"This extra £100 million represents a massive commitment to turn the tide on drugs in every community across Scotland.
"That's great news for Lanarkshire which will now have record resources to tackle drugs. The benefits will be clear. Young people will get the best possible education and information on drugs. Treatment facilities will expand to meet demand. And there'll be new opportunities for rehabilitation, training and the chance of a job for former drug users.
"We believe that local people know the priorities on drugs in their own communities. That's why local Drugs Action Teams will play an important part in turning these record resources into real action on the ground.
"And through their Drug Action Team people in Lanarkshire should have a real say in that process."

Decisions on the arrangements for the distribution of funds for social inclusion partnerships in 2002/2003 and 2003/2004 have still to be made.
