Wendy Alexander Announces New HIE Chief Executive

Minister for Enterprise and Lifelong Learning, Wendy Alexander today announced the appointment of Sandy Cumming as the new chief executive of Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
Making the announcement, Ms Alexander said:
"This is an important time in the development of the Enterprise Network in Scotland. I am pleased to be able to announce the appointment of Sandy Cumming and I am sure that with his chairman Jim Hunter, he will lead Highlands and Islands Enterprise through this exciting period and beyond.
"Much has been achieved by HIE in developing the economy of the highlands and islands but there is still a lot of work to be done. Together with the new chief executive we will particularly focus efforts on developing our island communities and the most peripheral areas as well as driving forward business development throughout the Highlands.
"The Scottish Executive is committed to doing all it can to support the further development of this area which plays a key role in the Scottish economy. I look forward to working with Mr Cumming in doing this in the months ahead."
BACKGROUND
1. HIE announced yesterday the appointment of Sandy Cumming as its new Chief Executive. He is currently HIE's Director of Growing Businesses Group. He was selected in open competition and will take up his post immediately. As required by statute, his appointment was approved by Wendy Alexander, Minister for Enterprise and Lifelong Learning.
