Parent Zone offers one-stop site for education information - Peacock

20/09/2000

A new website designed to be a one-stop information site for parents was launched in Glasgow today by Deputy Minister for Children and Education, Peter Peacock.

The aim of the Parent Zone is to provide parents with easy access to clear and accurate information on a range of education issues.

Speaking at the launch which was held at Rosemount Lifelong Learning Centre the Minister said:

"We live in an electronic age in which more and more people have access to the Internet at work, at home or through centres like this one. The Parent Zone website is a valuable resource for parents providing them with information on a range of education issues.

"There is information on the latest developments in education in the current issues section, and details of events aimed at parents in the events section. Also there are links to other bodies and organisations such as education authorities, the Anti-Bullying Network and Childcare Link."

The Zone covers a variety of subjects from making placing requests, to school term dates and school inspection reports.

BACKGROUND

1. The Zone was developed by the Scottish Executive and Learning and Teaching Scotland as part of the National Grid for Learning.

2. The URL is http://www.ngflscotland.gov.uk/parentzone
