Sam Galbraith Announces New Appointments To SportsScotland
26/06/2000
Three new appointments to sportscotland, the Government's main advisory body on sport in Scotland, have been confirmed by Minister for Children and Education Sam Galbraith.
The new appointees are Mrs Wai Yin Hatton, Chief Executive of Ayrshire and Arran Health Board; Dr Nanette Mutrie, senior lecturer in the Centre for Exercise Science and Medicine at the University of Glasgow; and Dr Linda Leighton-Beck, Education Manager for the North/North East with the Scottish Council for Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education.
These are unpaid appointments and will run to 31 October 2003. None of these appointees has undertaken any political activities over the last five years.
Mr Galbraith said:
"I am pleased to announce these new appointments to sportscotland. The new members bring experience and knowledge of the sporting world and the public bodies that sportscotland works with.
"One of the many reasons for widening participation levels in sport is of course to improve the nation's health. The new members, with their health service background, are all well aware of the importance of increasing the level of sporting and physical activity."
