Quality Meat Scotland Making Encouraging Progress - Finnie
22/03/2000
The establishment of Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) gives Scotland a real opportunity to respond positively to the challenges and opportunities which face the meat and livestock industry, Ross Finnie said today.
Commenting on the first meeting of the new Board of Quality Meat Scotland, Chaired on an interim basis by Donald Biggar, the Minister for Rural Affairs said:
"I am pleased the Board of Quality Meat Scotland has now met to add impetus to the task of merging the resources of SQBLA, SPII and MLC's Scottish operations.
"Smooth transition to the new body is very important. This will ensure the best features of the existing organisations, including the established Scotch brands and Farm Assurance elements, are retained with new ideas and direction being given by QMS.
"Donald Biggar, who will be acting as interim Chairman of the new body, has the experience and ability to guide QMS through its development stage. He has a first-rate Board to work with which will give him the necessary backing and support in what, I recognise, are difficult times for the industry".
