Provisional sheep annual premium rate for 1999

The provisional rate for the 1999 Sheep Annual Premium has been set at £17.15 per eligible ewe. The final rate for 1998 was £15.99.
The final rate for 1999 will depend on actual, as opposed to estimated, market prices. The increase on last year's final figure reflects estimated lower market prices throughout the EU this year.
The first advance payment, worth £9.78 per eligible ewe to most Scottish producers, will be paid this summer.
The provisional rate was set earlier this week by the EU Sheepmeat Management Committee.
