Gaelic Centre will provide most stunning learning environment in Europe - Brian Wilson
01/07/1998
The new Arainn Chaluim Chille (the Columba Campus) at Sabhal Mor Ostaig, the Gaelic College in Skye, will provide "the most stunning learning environment in Europe" said Scottish Education Minister Brian Wilson today.
Mr Wilson was speaking after a site visit to the campus which is currently under construction in the Sleat area of Skye. The site faces the Knoydart peninsula with commanding views over a wide area from Ardnamurchan point northwards.
Mr Wilson said:
"This will be a superb complex, providing first class learning facilities and residential accommodation which can be used to support the local economy as well as the direct needs of students attending Sabhal Mor Ostaig.
"It will immeasurably enhance the attractiveness and status of Gaelic medium education to have such a centre of advanced learning committed to the language. It is an excellent investment in educational, economic and cultural terms."
