Lord Sewel welcomes beef and lamb event at RAF Leuchars

01/07/1998

More British beef and lamb recipes could soon be on the menu for armed forces in Scotland, following a culinary display for armed forces chefs at RAF Leuchars in Fife today.

Scottish Agriculture Minister Lord Sewel, who recently discussed raising the profile of British beef in the armed forces with Ministerial colleague John Spellar MP, commented:

"I am pleased that these discussions have borne fruit, with today's event at RAF Leuchars. I would like to congratulate the Meat and Livestock Commission and the farmers unions on their efforts to demonstrate recipes and advise on the eating qualities of our beef and lamb. I am sure that messes around the country will be looking forward to sampling the results."

BACKGROUND

A culinary display on the use of British beef is taking place at RAF Leuchars on Wednesday 1 July organised by Ministry of Defence in association with their contractor Booker Foodservice, the Meat and Livestock Commission and the National Farmers' Union of Scotland, who will put across the beef producers' view.
