A8 Glasgow and Greenock Trunk Road - Major Road Works at Langbank
29/12/1997
The Scottish Office is warning motorists using the A8 trunk road between Glasgow and Greenock of major roadworks between January and April 1998. Delays are possible at peak times and drivers should allow extra time for journeys.
The works are related to the construction of a new roundabout at Langbank and are due to start on January 5 1998 for a period of 16 weeks.
During the construction period, temporary traffic management schemes including contraflow will be in operation on the A8 trunk road to allow its continued use while work is ongoing.
All right turns to and from the A8 Trunk Road between Woodhall Roundabout Port Glasgow and West Ferry Interchange (Junction 31 M8) will be banned during the course of the works. Diversion routes will be signposted via Woodhall Roundabout and West Ferry Interchange.
The Scottish Office has studied traffic management in the area to ensure it is as safe and efficient as possible - but delays may be possible, particularly at peak periods.
BACKGROUND
1. The construction of a new roundabout at Langbank will improve safety for the residents of the village at a junction which has a poor accident record. The scheme will also allow the removal of a height restriction on the eastbound carriageway of the A8 under the railway bridge.
2. Following completion of the works all central reserve gaps will be permanently closed between this new roundabout and Woodhall Roundabout.
3. The scheme, estimated cost £800,000 will be funded by the Scottish Office.
4. The Contractors are R.J. MacLeod of Glasgow and the designers are Renfrewshire Council.
