Eating out?

Suggestions for selecting Scottish food

  • Ask the provenance of food - Scotch beef/pork/lamb and fish.
  • During March fruit from Scotland is not in season, however frozen Scottish berries/fruit compotes of Scottish berries are available. These are great defrosted in the suggested desserts. Other options are Scottish fruit juice drinks and fruit smoothies.
  • Many farm shops have good supply of stored apples from the autumn so it's possible to be served/cook with Scottish apples.
  • Salads - only raw roots, some leaves and onions available so ask provenance.
  • Root vegetables are a good option.
  • Soups - especially fish - could be a good move.
  • Cheeseboard - ask for Scottish cheeses! Healthwise choose low fat cheeses and watch portion size.
  • Healthwise, it is recommended to avoid fried foods and opt for lower fat alternatives.

Shopping tips…

Cooking notes…..

  • All recipes are credited and notes of interest added where appropriate.
  • Roast chicken allows stock for the soups later in the week - to show judicious use of ingredients and expenditure!
  • Your menu provides at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

Optional snacks…..

  • If you do wish a snack then options for fruit and vegetable snacks are suggested.
  • Recipes for home bake snacks as an occasional treat are also provided.

Enjoy your week.
