European Day of Civil Justice

The third European day of Civil Justice takes place on Tuesday 25 October.

This annual event, established by the European Commission and the Council of Europe, aims to raise the profile of civil justice issues and systems for citizens across the European Union, and to enable everyone to be more empowered in getting access to civil justice information and procedures.

This year as part of the UK Presidency programme of civil justice events, the Scottish Executive and theDepartment of Constitutional Affairsare co-hosting a conference entitled 'Justice for All: Practical Approaches to Solving Cross-Border Civil Disputes' in Edinburgh on 25 and 26 October. Representatives from all 25 member states and all non-EU Council of Europe states have been invited to participate. The aim of the conference is to focus on the practical aspects of access to cross-border justice, and will include the first presentation of the Crystal Scales of Justice, a joint EU / Council of Europe prize for innovative practice contributing to the quality of civil justice.
