It is not just the new generation of 3G phones which can
receive rich multimedia (video) messages. Most new colour
mobile handsets are eligible to participate in the
trial.
Depending on the handset
and the phone network, a phone will receive either
enhanced messaging, ranging from picture messaging
through to simulated video, downloadable video, or
directly streaming video.
The Executive, as part of a possible future information
strategy, wants to test the response of people to receiving
video, news and information via mobile, including
presentations by the virtual character Seonaid.
Messages - news items,
weekly round-ups, and news alerts - will be sent out
at regular intervals over a period of two to three
months and recipients will be asked to give their
opinion. A full evaluation will take place during and
at the completion of the trial.
There is no charge to the user for the video message
itself. However, a network provider may charge a fee for
the downloading of related files.
Anyone interested in taking part should go the
registration
page and fill in the details.
