Dormant Bank and Building Society Accounts Bill

The Dormant Bank and Building Society Accounts Bill will create the legal and administrative framework for the distribution of money from cash accounts that have been dormant for fifteen years or more. This money must be distributed to the third sector, for social and environmental benefit. The Big Lottery Fund (BIG) will be the body responsible for distributing this money across the UK. The first stage of the process, an initial scoping seminar was held on 13 May. 2008. The seminar, hosted by the Scottish Council of Voluntary Organisations, sought broad views on potential priorities and highlighted key themes and issues. Participants included BIG, national umbrella and intermediary bodies and the voluntary sector networks. The event gave shape to the themes for discussion in the second stage of the process which will comprise a series of public events, an on-line web survey and a consultation exercise.
