Social Researchers work in all the main policy areas of the Scottish Government and are members of the wider GSR Professional Group.

To join us you will need an honours degree (2:1 or above) in a social science discipline or a post-graduate qualification in a social science discipline, together with a proven record of social research employment experience. You will also need a good understanding of the role of research in policy making. For posts at B3 grade, broad and substantial social research experience will be required. For both grades, you will need core social research technical capability and knowledge, and the ability to: deliver results; develop constructive relationships; communicate with impact; and critically evaluate data and information with accuracy and perception. Where you are assigned will depend on your skills and experience, and the business needs of the Scottish Government.

Applications are welcome from individuals wishing to work part-time or on a job sharing basis.

Candidates with a disability who satisfy the essential basic criteria for the post will be invited to an assessment centre.
