This is a note of a meeting between the Minister for Health and Community Care, NHS Lothian, a local MP, MSPs and Councillors to discuss local concerns over St John's Hospital in Livingston. Following the consultation, services have been secured at St John's and indeed some new and expanded services have been brought to the hospital.
The transfer of all inpatient and most day case ENT surgery, from other hospitals in Lothian, took place in April 2006. This established St John's as a centre of excellence for head and neck surgery and medicine. Outpatient clinics continue to be provided in a number of locations across Lothian to ensure local access. The transfer meant that this specialty joined other existing specialties such as maxillo-facial and plastic surgery which were already located at St John's.
