Q. How many male employees, including management of the Scottish Executive or organisations coming under the Scottish Executive umbrella, have had their contract extended by mutual agreement beyond the normal Civil Service retirement age of 60 in the ten years up to April 2005.
A. In the 10 years up to April 2005, 356 male employees including management of the Scottish Executive or organisations coming under the Scottish Executive umbrella (i.e. Executive Agencies and associated departments), have had their contract extended by mutual agreement beyond the normal civil service retirement age.
Q. What formal arrangements are in place for staff to extend their contract beyond the normal Civil Service retirement age of 60?
A. The current Scottish Executive policy allows employees to retire when they reach age 60, which is the normal Scottish Executive retirement age. However, staff can be retained on a yearly basis up to age 65 provided their performance, conduct and attendance are satisfactory and there is a post available.

A. Since 1 January 2003, 198 requests have been received by the Scottish Executive or organisations coming under the Scottish Executive umbrella from staff wishing to work beyond their normal retirement age of 60.
