Section 13: Classes of Information published by the Scottish Government

Introduction

This section provides details on the classes of information that we routinely publish.

The first 4 classes mirror the principal headings on the Scottish Government website, namely 'About', 'News', 'Publications' and 'Consultations'. Classes 5 to 24 mirror the individual policy areas lying under the Topic heading on our website, for example 'Agriculture', 'Economy', 'Fisheries', etc.

The approach of aligning our classes, insofar as practicable, with the headings on our website has helped us to ensure that the scheme reflects the full range of Government activity. It also means that the publication scheme may be used, in effect, as a user manual for the website (note that section 5 explains how those without access to the internet can also obtain this information). Clearly our website is continually changing and developing. We will therefore regularly review and, as appropriate, update the terms of this publication scheme so as to accurately reflect the full range of information published by the Scottish Government.

Within each class you will find a brief introduction to Government activity in that class, a more detailed explanation of the kinds of information available and links directly into the relevant web-pages where you can access the information.

The classes of information are:

Class 1 - About us

Class 2 - News

Class 3 - Publications

Class 4 - Consultations

Introduction to classes 5 - 24

These classes of information mirror the individual policy areas that can be located under the Topic heading on the Scottish Government website. The information described in each class is therefore usually available within the relevant Topic page on the website.

For each of these classes, information on current strategies, consultations, major policy proposals and decisions will be made available. Relevant background, factual and statistical information; guidance (which may include guidance on internal handling matters); circulars, statistics, research information and contact details may also be made available, as considered appropriate by the Scottish Government. Reference to this information will enable the public to assess how the Scottish Government is delivering on the Strategic Objectives that it has set itself.
