Implementation

The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 came into force on 1 January 2005.

1. The Scottish Public Information Forum

The Scottish Public Information Forum has been established to enable the long-term effectiveness of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004. The Forum has representation from users and Scottish public authorities.

2. The Scottish Freedom of Information Implementation Group

The Scottish Freedom of Information Implementation Group (SFOIIG), with representation from across the Scottish public sector, was established in 2001 to prepare and oversee a strategy to successfully implement this legislation. The final meeting of SFOIIG was held in March 2007.

4. Training Material For Public Authorities

The Scottish Government commissioned a package of training materials which which were made available to Scottish public authorities to assist them with the implementation of Freedom of Information.
