Mike Neilson
The Scottish Government's Marine Directorate is headed by Mike Neilson and is committed to ensuring the sustainable use of coasts and seas and the resources that they contain. The Marine Management Division is responsible for co-ordinating marine issues throughout the government and for raising the public awareness of the marine environment. The Directorate is structured into give divisions including:
- Sea Fisheries (Management)
- Sea Fisheries (Conservation)
- Marine Transition Unit
- Aquaculture & Freshwater Fisheries Division
- Marine Strategy Division
A new marine management body is being created to help Scotland make the most of its seas for future generations. Marine Scotland, which will be up and running by April 1, will bring together the current functions of Fisheries Research Services (FRS), the Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency (SFPA) and the Scottish Government's Marine Directorate.
