David Wilson

The Business, Enterprise & Energy Directorate is led by David Wilson. It plays a fundamental role in delivering the Government Economic Strategy: specifically, "a Scotland that is the most attractive place for doing business in Europe".

Our Goal

The Directorate's primary purpose is to work with other public sector partners and the business community to realise Scotland's productivity potential by developing and enhancing Scotland's business environment.

Objectives
  • Strengthen Scotland's business environment
  • Increase overall productivity across the Scottish economy
  • Increase carbon productivity and secure sustainable energy supply and consumption in Scotland.
  • Build a social and economic partnership, through engagement with the business and trade union community, and ensure the Government's cohesion and solidarity objectives are at the heart of all we do.
  • Develop and maintain high quality, continually improving, efficient and responsive business operations.

These objectives reflect the Directorate's role within the Scottish Government and the wider public sector. They demand effective partnership working with the business and trade union communities. They call for well-aligned enterprise, innovation, investment and energy policies and programmes.

They provide a solid foundation for our short term focus on mitigating the effects of the current economic climate, including contributing strongly to the Scottish Government Economic Recovery Programme, and ensuring that all our policies and programmes address economic recovery.
