Craig French

Divisional Solicitor Employment Law and Litigation DivisionCraig has considerable experience in both the private and public sector, principally as a litigator. He currently heads up the Employment Law & Litigation Division in SGLD, dealing with employment law, Judicial Review, Human Rights law and Mental Health Tribunal litigation. Prior to taking up his current role, Craig advised the Development Department of the Scottish Government on a wide range of matters including planning, housing law, charities, local government and equal opportunities.

Craig's career highlights include: successfully arguing that TUPE did not apply following clients acquisition of competitor's business; negotiation of several Compromise Agreements involving high value/senior executives; advising on several Scottish Parliament Bills; instructing mental health litigation in the English High Court and Court of Appeal involving cutting edge ECHR arguments; instructing House of Lords cases on bias and challenges to Scottish Parliament legislation; instructing in a key ECHR case which considered the remedies available to the Court where a breach of Convention Rights has been established; and conducting a hearing before the Traffic Commissioner in the bar of a hotel in the Western Isles!
