Scottish Government Diversity Information

Diversity is a key part of the Scottish Government's 'Big Picture', and is something that matters to us all, both as individuals and as employees of the organisation. The Diversity team is part of the Employee Relations and Reward branch in HR Division, and its role is to implement and develop the Scottish Government Equal Opportunities and Diversity policy, and the wider diversity strategy.

Equal Opportunities Policy

All staff should be treated equally irrespective of their sex, marital/civil partnership status, age, race, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability, religion or belief, working pattern, employment status, gender identity (transgender), caring responsibility, or trade union membership.

Diversity Policy

The Scottish Government is committed to increasing the diversity of staff within the organisation. We will develop all our staff, ignoring all irrelevant differences in their management and development. Furthermore we will positively value the different perspectives and skills of all staff and make full use of these in our work.

The Cabinet Office launched its 10 Point Plan, 'Delivering a Diverse Civil Service', on November 1, 2005. The Plan sets out commitments on 10 key areas that are intended to achieve broad and deep cultural change across the Civil Service.

To support the Plan, each Civil Service Department, including the Scottish Government, was required to produce an individual Diversity Delivery Plan. The Scottish Government Diversity Delivery Plan was launched in 2006.
