The Constitution, Law and Courts Directorate works towards the Scottish Government's Purpose by helping ensure that the people of Scotland benefit from a responsive, efficient, respected justice system, giving them speedy access to both civil and criminal justice which will help make Scotland a safer, stronger, wealthier and fairer place to live.

Our Goal

To support a wealthier, fairer, safer and stronger Scotland by developing democracy, justice and the law.

Objectives
  • Support a fairer, safer and stronger Scotland by modernising the legal framework within which people, organisations, government and the courts relate to each other
  • Support a fairer, safer and stronger Scotland by delivering an independent, fair and accessible system for upholding rights and resolving disputes
  • Support a wealthier Scotland by working in Scotland and through international organisations to enhance the competitiveness and success of Scots law, the Scottish legal profession and the businesses and individuals they serve.
  • Support a healthier Scotland by making it possible for individuals whose health is harmed by wrongdoing to claim redress.
  • Support the National Conversation and a referendum on constitutional change
  • Support more responsive public services by implementing the Government's policies on freedom of information, elections and building strong partnerships with those who work with us
  • Manage Government's programme of Parliamentary business in support of its purpose
  • Improve Directorate capacity to deliver business plans and support for Ministers through effective management of staff and resources.
