The Police & Community Safety Directorate works towards the Scottish Government's Purpose to ensure that the people of Scotland benefit from efficient and effective policy and funding for police, fire and rescue services, emergency and civil contingency planning, community safety and drugs misuse.

Our Goal

To build safer, stronger and resilient communities in Scotland. Working with stakeholders to detect, prevent and reduce crime, to reduce problem drug misuse, and to increase capability to respond to emergencies.

Objectives
  • Work with stakeholders to improve community safety and well-being, and to prevent, detect and reduce crime
  • Reduce problem drug use
  • Increase the resilience and capability of our communities and nation to manage risk and respond to emergencies
  • Support Scottish Ministers in setting national policy and providing leadership by ensuring that policies are based on sound evidence ant that progress towards the delivery of outcomes is measured objectively.
  • Build directorate and stakeholder capabilities to assess risks, agree priorities and take effective action
  • Ensure our public services are high quality, continually improving, efficient and responsive to local people's needs
