The Equalities, Social inclusion and Sport Directorate is headed by Liz Hunter and consists of three divisions:
Social Inclusion - poverty, financial inclusion and Armed Forces and Veterans' issues
Equalities - equality policy, violence against women, race, religion and refugee integration
Sport and Games Legacy Team - Sport, 2014 Commonwealth Games Delivery and Legacy
Our Goal
To work with Ministers, our delivery partners and other stakeholders to tackle the significant inequalities in Scottish society and to create strong, resilient and supportive communities; and to develop sport in Scotland, deliver the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and ensure an appropriate legacy from those Games and from the Olympics in 2012.
Objectives
- To increase participation in sport
- To improve sporting performance at elite level.
- To deliver the 2014 Commonwealth Games
- To secure a legacy for Scotland from London 2012 and Glasgow 2014
- To promote social inclusion across the SG and externally
- To pilot, develop and mainstream innovative anti-poverty programmes
- To increase overall income and the proportion of income earned by the three lowest income deciles as a group by 2017
- To promote and improve equality of opportunity and mainstreaming of equality
- To reduce discrimination, prejudice, abuse and inequality
- To lead the National Conversation on benefits, tax credits and employment support.
